We're thrilled to announce the newest addition to the K9 Metropolitan Specialists team — Andy Lightfoot, a seasoned expert in the world of canine training and operations. With over 35 years of hands-on experience working with dogs in both military and private sectors, Andy brings a depth of knowledge, professionalism, and passion that aligns perfectly with our values and vision.
Andy's remarkable career began in the Royal Air Force, where he served for 22 years as a Police Dog Handler, Trainer, Instructor, and Kennel Manager. During his tenure, he specialised in AES (Armed Explosive Search), EDD (Explosive Detection Dogs), and Narcotics detection. His leadership and training experience in these highly specialised fields have laid a strong foundation for the next phase of his career.
Since transitioning to the private security industry, Andy has continued to build an impressive portfolio. He's worked as both an operational handler and instructor on major assignments including the London 2012 Olympics, contracts with the U.S. Department of State, and missions for the United Nations in Afghanistan. His expertise has also been called upon by high-profile clients across the UK. Notably, Andy was among the first instructors involved in the UK's pioneering FREDDS aviation EDD programme, a testament to his innovation and commitment to advancing canine detection capabilities.
As a long-standing NASDU instructor, Andy has trained countless handlers and dogs, helping to raise the bar for industry standards. His vast experience and steady leadership make him an invaluable asset to our team.
We're especially excited about the possibility of taking Andy with us to Malaysia later this year, where we hope to further expand our international work and bring our unique blend of expertise and professionalism to new challenges overseas.
Please join us in giving Andy a warm welcome — we're honoured to have him on board and look forward to the exceptional work ahead.
